God is so good and he is moving in very clear ways right now. Let me fill you in!
On Easter, our squad helped the church we were partnering with in Turkey put on an Easter service. We sang songs in Turkish, performed Bible skits, and interceded as the pastor preached the gospel. After the service, we handed out 50 Turkish Bibles. We engaged in conversations with Believers in need of encouragement and unbelievers who had never been to a Christian church before. Throughout our final week in Turkey, we met up with some of the people we had met at the Easter service and said goodbye to the many friends we had made in our town.
Our flights to Nepal were delayed several days due to the war in Iran. So our squad all met in Istanbul and sought the face of Jesus. We prayed, worshipped, and read the Bible, focusing on squad unity and realignment. Nepal will be our first country as all squad! Meaning all 14 of us will be doing ministry in the same location. We asked God how he wanted all squad to look and how we could be interceding for the nation of Nepal. We then flew to Nepal and our squad immediately fell in love with the culture. I had spent a month in Asia last year and was itching to be back. Nepalese people are hospitable, generous, and community-minded. Our hosts immediately welcomed us into their family and made us feel right at home. I can already tell it is going to be a gift to learn from the way they serve God and love others. We jumped straight into church ministry with them, and then just a day later, our parents arrived in Nepal for the Parent Vision Trip (PVT).
PVT was one of the sweetest weeks of the race so far. To see our parents for the first time in eight months and then worship and do ministry alongside them was a gift. Over the course of five days, we did church ministry, prayed over the city of Kathmandu, saw healings, deliverances, and family reunification within our squad. My parents overflowed with a love for the Lord and for me, and their presence deeply refreshed my spirit to continue strong in ministry. On the third night of PVT, I gave a teaching to the parents on how to hear the voice of the Lord. I was really sick that day, and I just kept praying, asking God to speak through me anything the room needed to hear. I asked him to use me as a vessel for what he wanted to communicate. After teaching, I created space for the parents to practice hearing the voice of the Lord. Afterwards, one of my teammates' dads came up to me and shared how he had never heard the voice of the Lord the way he had tonight. God had revealed himself in a new way because his ear was attuned, and the Dad was in awe. The next day, one of the moms share a testimony about how, after the teaching, she listened to the voice of the Lord, and it deeply affected her. Thank you God that you speak to us!
Our team is staying in the Thamel area of Kathmandu. It is an area full of nightlife, prostitution, drug abuse, and tourism. But we also see true revival breaking out through the power of the Holy Spirit. The fourth night of PVT, I stayed late with several of my team members at the church building to help lock up. As we were waiting on a key, two travelers stumbled into the church looking for a bar. One was from the UK named Loui, and the other was from a different area of Nepal, named Diana. We chatted with them, feeling the intentionality of the Lord to bring them into the church in such a seemingly random way. As we locked up, we began to chat with them in the street. We shared the gospel, and one of my teammates shared his testimony with them. When we told Diana that we had a relationship with Jesus, she shared about how she has a friend who she thinks looks like Jesus, and she thinks he is so beautiful. She was stuck on the beauty of this friend. It was the perfect open door to tell her about the beauty of the real Jesus. We shared with her that she could pray and ask God to show her Jesus. We invited her to shut her eyes and pray "Jesus show me your face". When she did she saw a necklace. She described how it looked like our blue eyes. My mentor Abigail, was with us, and she received a word of knowledge that it was an attachment of the enemy, and the necklace was an evil eye. She told Diana to keep her eyes shut and pull off the necklace. Diana then began to weep. She opened her eyes, and they were full of joy and wonder. She was rejoiced, saying how she had just seen Jesus. She immediately told Loui all about what she had seen. We walked her through how to put her faith in Christ and right in the middle of the streets of Kathmandu at 11pm she gave her life to Jesus. Thank you Jesus for revealing yourself to Diana!
Several days later, some of our team led a man to Christ while walking down the street. The harvest is ripe in Nepal! The spiritual atmosphere is thick because of the idol worship that comes with Hinduism and Buddhism. You can feel people are searching for the one true God and our prayer is that many people will meet him during this next month. Join with us in praying for more salvations and continued growth and discipleship in the Lord for these two people who just gave their life to Jesus!
As our squad steps into our final three months of the Race, this scripture has stayed on the forefront of my mind and heart. "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart." Hebrews 12:1-3
